Do you want to move to the culturally rich and warm country of Mexico? Follow along with Karsten’s journey as she moves from Winterthur Switzerland to Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Read more of her journey and her top tips for a smooth move to Mexico.

What were your reasons for moving? What was the experience like?

Private, move away from Switzerland to Mexico. A mixture of good impressions and poor implementation, especially when loading in Switzerland.

The loading in Switzerland was chaotic and actually nothing was as discussed. The subcontractor was completely overwhelmed by the task. Especially when it came to the administrative requirements for the documents for the embassy in the destination country.

Lack of responsibility for the overall process on the part of the general contractor leaves an unattractive impression.

What made you choose this mover? Did you do any research?

There was a quick offer that was convincing in terms of content. We liked the fact that we had an end-to-end offer very quickly. The subcontractor in the target country was also convincing, as he quickly had the necessary documents regarding the import ready. The communication was friendly and seemed very constructive at the beginning.

Unfortunately, we have not done enough background checks and read comments from other customers. If we had done that, we probably would have chosen another supplier.

Take us through your moving day – did everything go as planned? What worked and what didn’t?

Already when it came to the concrete planning, came the first doubts about the competence to move a private household. The day of the move was a complete chaos and nothing went as discussed. Complete incompetence regarding the necessary lists for the embassy.

In the end, we had to coordinate the project management and prepare the lists ourselves on site, even though this was all included in the scope of services offered. The coordination between Reloswiss and the subcontractors was a nightmare. Reloswiss showed little responsibility for what happened on moving day or willingness and financial compensation.

Based on your experience, what are your top tips you’d like to share to help others for their own moves?

  • Stop the exercise as soon as there are disturbing feelings.
  • Read the comments on the Internet carefully and inform yourself about the company.
  • Ask for references.
  • Find out about all the subcontractors.
  • It is also important to deal with the correct packaging for sea transport.

As soon as you have given your goods out of your hand you are blackmailable and pay every further bill. Therefore, agree on a lump sum price that covers all services. Be suspicious of prepayment. and reserve a partial amount, which is paid only after completion.
